Intern in LyonSCG

I just got an internship in LyonSCG as a part time application engineer last week.They are using the Magento and Demandware (Cloud Base) to build e-commerce site for the costumes.  I felt so useless in the couple days because I knew nothing about these software. I know HTML, CSS3 and a bit of javascript, but I don't think my knowledge is good enough to fit this job. However, I talked to many friends about it. They all said that, "Because you are hired as an intern, they will expect you know nothing. The major things for you is learning, and ask question. Don't pretend you know all the stuff." Now I feel more comfortable about this job, and I am willing to face more challenge.

NorthStar Reach Meeting

I went to the NPO NorthStar Reach on 5/23/2014. Marji and I have talked about 30 minutes. It includes their business goal, events, things to improve, etc. NorthStar Reach is also a member of organization calls serious fun children. Their camp event is for kid who is under medical treatment. However, family doesn't really know about NorthStar Reach unless the doctor refer it. Their valuable actions on their website are donation, contact us, become a volunteer, sign up the news letter. Their website is managing by the third party company, and there are something need to be fixed, such as make easier to find the sign up news button. Overall, I feel it's hard to have good CTR in Adword because their website doesn't really have many valuable action that can attract visitor to do something, but it's still a good website that have a lot of useful information and people can view the event information on the website. Their biggest event is the Groundbreaking. The brand new area for camping is going to open soon. I wish everyone can join the event and play with it.

North Star Reach

I am responsible to the NPO North Star Reach on Summer 2014. Their Ad performance still has a lot of space to improve. It's possible to delete some of "low search volume" keywords. At same time, I am think about the value action on their website.What's the business goal? What can visitor do on their website? What's the story?  It might need to re-organize the website and adwords.  


In ad group North Star by Name, visitors are looking for their website through the keywords "north star reach" and their ad. It's only for people who know this NPO. It doesn't attract many new visitor. Overall, I sent an email last week to this NPO, but I didn't get any feedback yet. I am planning to contact the NPO via phone directly on Tuesday or Wednesday. And I am going to modify some of the ad group.

Michigan Marketing Minds Event.

I was there on 5/13 for the event Michigan Marketing Minds - Hitting your Marketing ROI. The event is OK. Most of contents we have been talked in the class. There is one interesting opinion about type one and two error. In marketing, type 2 error is more important than type 1 because people might not introduce the campaign in type 2 error. And the campaign might be the right one, but people wouldn’t give a shot. Therefore, we might miss a home run. 

Next I am planning to attend one of these event.

Both events are interested. In Summer Career Fair, I am exciting to meet new people. For Ann Arbor New Tech Meetup, they seek to foster tech entrepreneurship by facilitating communication, providing access to resources, and creating community. Their members meet every few weeks to participate in demo events, educational panel and speaker events, unconferences, and happy hours.

Ann Arbor Spark & LA2M Search Marketing Events

 Digital marketing is one of options for my future career. To gain more knowledge about it, I am planning to attend the event of LA2M and Ann Arbor Spark. For LA2M, it is open to client and agency side marketing professionals, and anyone else who wants to learn about marketing. It’s a chance to exchange ideas and get to know other professionals during lunch in a relaxed and friendly environment. LA2M has a lunch  meeting on every Wed. Also it's located in 318 South Main Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, which is closed to me. For Ann Arbor Spark, they are supporting high tech and innovative business, jobs and investment in the greater Ann Arbor region. And their mission is that Ann Arbor SPARK will advance the economy of the Ann Arbor region by establishing the area as a desired place for business expansion and location by identifying and meeting the needs of business at every stage, from those that are established to those working to successfully commercialize innovations. They have event on 5/13, which is “Michigan Marketing Minds - Hitting your Marketing ROI.” For this event, you can learn best practices in measuring marketing return on investment and understand how to match metrics with your sales and growth strategies. Both events are good if you are interested in digital marketing.
